Great beer and incredible food with a Southern craft focus.

Western North Carolina is known for its love of food and passion for great craft beer. At our Mills River Taproom and Restaurant you’ll find an abundance of both. Visit the Taproom to sample one of our 23 beers on tap, many produced just a few feet from the restaurant. Beers are accompanied by artful, chef-driven food focused on small plate, sharable, whole animal and farm-to-table dishes sourced mainly from local suppliers. We are a first come, first serve restaurant. Please feel free to stop by the host stand to put your name on the list, or grab a beer and head outside to our Back Porch and Beer Garden to take in the views of the beautiful forest or stroll through our Mills River Estate Garden. We use the homegrown vegetables and herbs for our restaurant and small-scale pilot brewery.

Helles

The Helles—or light colored—lager is one of Germany’s greatest gifts to the brewing world. This complex, yet, approachable style offers a near perfect balance between deep malt flavors and a crisp hop finish. Our version of this venerable style is inspired by the German-brewed classics and perfect for nearly any occasion.

Appalachian Brown Ale

This is our mountain take on the classic American brown ale brewed right here in Mills River. This easy-drinking beer has complex roasted malt flavor and a moderate kiss of hops, great for a cool spring evening.

English-Style Mild

Mild ales were created for an afternoon in the pub — with good friends, several pints and of course, some great food. Brewed with traditional English malt and hops, our Mild is light in body but big on malt flavor with rich chocolate, toffee, and roasted malt character.

Audition Session IPA

Kicking back under blue skies, you want a beer that’s mellow in power yet packed with flavor. We finished off this session IPA with a citrusy combination of Simcoe, Azacca, and Zappa hops. Inviting aromas of tangerine and grapefruit combine with a smooth malt foundation for a beer worthy of a few encores.

Porter

Brewed in the hop-forward American style and featuring a depth of malt flavor and complexity with roasted notes of black coffee and cocoa.

Torpedo Extra IPA

The first beer to feature our “Hop Torpedo”—a revolutionary dry-hopping device that controls how much hop aroma and what kind is imparted into beer without adding additional bitterness.
